Everton vs Liverpool postponed due to poor weather conditions

Everton announced on Saturday that the Premier League match against Liverpool has been postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The Merseyside derby, set to take place on Saturday at Goodison Park, marks the first English top-flight football match to be postponed due to storm Darragh.

Everton announced that the decision to postpone the event was made after a meeting of a safety advisory group, which included officials from both clubs, representatives from Merseyside police, and members of Liverpool city council.

“In light of safety concerns stemming from strong wind gusts and an ongoing amber severe wind warning set to last until 6 am on Sunday, officials have announced that today’s fixture will be postponed for safety reasons,” the statement indicated.

Merseyside police issued a warning on Friday, urging residents to refrain from non-essential travel until weather conditions show improvement.

“In a statement, league leaders Liverpool acknowledged the disappointment this decision may cause among supporters, emphasizing that the safety of fans, staff, and players remains the top priority.”

“Details regarding the rescheduled date for the event, along with ticketing information, will be provided shortly.”

The upcoming match will be the final Merseyside Premier League derby at Goodison Park as Everton prepares to leave their home of over a century at the season’s conclusion.

On Friday, it was announced that two fixtures in the second-tier Championship, featuring Plymouth Argyle against Oxford United and Cardiff City facing Watford, have been postponed and will not occur as scheduled on Saturday.
