A real estate investment trust initiated by Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi has officially entered the Spanish market, debuting at a share price of 57.4 euros. This launch has resulted in a market capitalisation of 223 million euros, equivalent to approximately $232.12 million.
In a recent announcement, Lionel Messi, currently playing for Inter Miami and previously a forward for FC Barcelona, has been appointed as the board chairman for Edificio Rostower Socimi. This information was disclosed in documents released by the Portfolio Stock Exchange, a European alternative market regulated by the Bank of Spain.
According to the documents, Edificio Rostower has a diverse portfolio, including seven hotels in Spain and Andorra, three office spaces, and five apartments in Spain. Additionally, the company owns apartments in both London and Paris.
Established in 2013, the company reported a loss of 1.7 million euros in 2023, as indicated by records released by the Portfolio Stock Exchange.
Edificio Rostower has yet to respond to its recent stock market debut on Monday.
Most of the company’s investments are concentrated in Catalonia, Spain, the region where Messi relocated at 13 in 2000 to join the youth teams of FC Barcelona.
He resided in the city until 2021 when he made the surprising decision to depart from FC Barcelona and join Paris St Germain. This move came after the financially troubled Catalan club announced that it could not retain him due to the constraints imposed by La Liga’s financial fair play regulations.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has consistently expressed his intention to return to Barcelona with his wife and three children following his retirement from soccer.
