Lynn Ban, a prominent jewellery designer from Singapore and a notable figure on the Netflix reality series Bling Empire, has passed away just a month after having brain surgery due to injuries sustained in a skiing accident.
On Wednesday, Sebastian, her son, took to Instagram to announce the passing of his mother, who was 51 years old. His heartfelt tribute described her as a “best friend and the best mother.”
An accident occurred in Aspen, Colorado, on Christmas Eve.
The family of Ban has not disclosed the immediate cause of her death.
On New Year’s Eve, Ban took to social media to share an incident while skiing at the summit of a mountain, where she experienced a fall and described it as a ‘face plant’.
Wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, she remarked, “it didn’t seem that bad at the time and I was able to ski to the bottom.” She also noted that a ski patrol officer subsequently assessed her for a concussion and deemed her fit to continue.
Despite experiencing “a bit of a headache,” she opted to visit a hospital following the recommendation of a paramedic. She subsequently learnt that she was experiencing a brain bleed, prompting her to undergo an emergency craniotomy.
“In a blink of an eye… life can change,” she wrote in her post, which featured a photo of her in bed with her head partially shaved.
“The journey to recovery is extensive, yet I stand resilient as a survivor.”
Originating from Singapore, Ban has gained professional experience in major cities such as New York, London, and Paris.
According to her website, her designs have graced the bodies of pop icons such as Madonna, Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Cardi B, and Billie Eilish.
In 2023, the cast of Bling Empire New York featured a group of Asian American socialites who showcased their wealth and style, all while navigating the drama of life in New York City, as highlighted by Netflix.
In a heartfelt tribute, Sebastian Ban expressed his desire for the world to recognise the true essence of his mother as an individual.
“Despite the challenges she faced during her recovery, she consistently wore a smile,” he remarked.
“He described her as a fighter until the end, asserting that she is the strongest woman he knows.”
