The 1980s TV series "WKRP in Cincinnati" star Loni Anderson died

Loni Anderson, renowned for her role as the empowered receptionist at a struggling radio station in the beloved TV comedy “WKRP in Cincinnati”, passed away on Sunday, mere days ahead of her 80th birthday.

Anderson passed away at a hospital in Los Angeles after battling a “prolonged” illness, according to her long-time publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan.

In a heartfelt statement, Anderson’s family expressed their sorrow, stating, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother.”

“WKRP in Cincinnati” was broadcast from 1978 to 1982, focusing on a struggling radio station in Ohio that sought to revitalise its image through the introduction of rock music. The ensemble featured Gary Sandy, Tim Reid, Howard Hesseman, Frank Bonner, and Jan Smithers, with Anderson portraying the alluring and intelligent Jennifer Marlowe.

In her role as the station’s receptionist, Jennifer, characterised by her blonde hair and high heels, strategically employed her allure to divert unwelcome business calls intended for her superior, Mr. Carlson. Her efficiency frequently ensured the station operated smoothly, even amid the shortcomings of others.

The performance garnered her two Emmy Awards and three nominations for the Golden Globe.

Anderson appeared on the big screen with Burt Reynolds in the 1983 comedy “Stroker Ace”. The two later married, becoming prominent figures in tabloid headlines, before their divorce in 1994.

Anderson leaves behind her husband Bob Flick, daughter Deidra and son-in-law Charlie Hoffman, son Quinton Anderson Reynolds, grandchildren McKenzie and Megan Hoffman, stepson Adam Flick and his wife Helene, as well as step-grandchildren Felix and Maximilian.
