In a significant weather development, heavy rainfall has persisted in multiple regions of the country, with the coastal district of Feni experiencing the most substantial precipitation over the last 24 hours.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Feni experienced a significant rainfall of 379 millimetres between 6:00 am yesterday and 6:00 am today.
Heavy rainfall led to flash flooding in various sections of the district, as the rising waters of the Muhuri River inundated nearby residential neighbourhoods. As water levels are projected to start declining today, numerous neighbourhoods continue to experience flooding.
In a recent report, Dhaka experienced a significant rainfall, measuring 77 millimetres over 24 hours.
The capital experienced ongoing rainfall that started yesterday and persisted into this morning. According to meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir, the city is expected to see some relief by the afternoon. Today, Dhaka is forecast to experience rainfall that is anticipated to be less intense than yesterday’s.
Further rainfall is expected throughout the day in the divisions of Chattogram, Khulna, and Barishal.
In a concerning development, water levels in significant rivers, such as the Padma, Jamuna, and Brahmaputra, have risen over the last 24 hours, with forecasts indicating that this trend is likely to continue.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, operating under the Water Development Board, has indicated that although water levels are rising, the likelihood of significant flooding at this time is considered low.
Meteorologists predict a potential easing of rainfall starting Thursday, yet caution that a resurgence in intensity is expected by Sunday.
