Australia's Smith surpasses 10,000 Test runs

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Australia’s own Steve Smith has officially crossed the monumental 10,000-run threshold in Test cricket. This remarkable achievement came during the opening day of his team’s match in Sri Lanka, showcasing his prowess on the international stage.

The seasoned veteran stepped onto the pitch for the opening Test of the two-match series just one run shy of a monumental milestone at 9,999 runs. Taking the reins as captain in Pat Cummins’ absence, he confidently opted to bat after winning the toss, setting the stage for an exciting clash.

Stepping up to the crease following the departures of Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne, he expertly nudged his very first delivery to mid-on, securing a single that etched his name in history as the 15th batter to achieve the remarkable milestone of 10,000 Test runs.

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Smith has joined an elite group as the fourth Australian to achieve this remarkable milestone, following in the footsteps of legends Allan Border, Steve Waugh, and Ricky Ponting.

“Fortunately, I managed to find the gap with that shot, and it felt great to get that one away,” Smith, who was unbeaten on 64 at tea in Galle, shared with Australia’s 7Cricket.

“It’s a great feeling to tick that off the list,” he remarked.

In a stunning display of cricketing prowess, India’s own Sachin Tendulkar stands tall with an unmatched record of 15,921 Test runs, firmly placing him at the top of the leaderboard. Following closely behind is Australia’s Ricky Ponting, who has amassed an impressive 13,378 runs but still trails the legendary Tendulkar.

In a thrilling display of batting prowess, England’s Joe Root has surged to fifth place on the all-time runs leaderboard, amassing 12,972 runs. This remarkable achievement sees him surpass fellow countryman Alastair Cook, who now sits in sixth with 12,472 runs. The competition is heating up as these two cricketing giants continue to etch their names in the record books.
