Final World Cup record for Argentina before Spain match

Argentina faces Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA, hoping to better their even record.

The match will start at 1:00 am Bangladesh time on Monday as the South Americans seek a fourth world title.

In six World Cup finals, the South American team has won three titles and finished runners-up three times, a 50% success record.

Argentina’s first World Cup final loss was 4-2 against Uruguay in 1930. They won their first title at home in 1978 by defeating the Netherlands 3-1 in extra time, then again in 1986 by defeating West Germany 3-2 in Mexico.

Their next two final performances were heartbreaking. West Germany defeated Argentina 1-0 in the 1990 final and again in 2014 in Brazil after extra time.

Argentina finally won their third World Cup in 2022 after defeating France 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a 3-3 draw.
