Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan has entered the billionaire echelon for the first time, ranking among the world’s wealthiest actors, as per a recent report.
The 59-year-old’s net worth is assessed at an impressive $1.4 billion (£1.03 billion), according to the Hurun India Rich List 2025, a yearly ranking of India’s wealthiest individuals.
This places him among worldwide luminaries such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, pop artist Rihanna, golfer Tiger Woods, and singer Taylor Swift, whose net worth is estimated at $1.6 billion by Forbes magazine.
Additional Bollywood figures on the list are actress Juhi Chawla, actors Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan, and film director Karan Johar.
Khan, frequently referred to as Bollywood’s king of romance, has dedicated over three decades to the Hindi film business, transforming from an actor to a prominent producer and cricket club owner.
Anas Rahman Junaid, founder and chief researcher at Hurun India, stated to the media that Khan’s billionaire status is mainly attributed to his investments in Red Chillies Entertainment, his production firm, and Knight Rider Sports, his IPL cricket team.
His additional income sources are film revenues, ads, and purported interests in global real estate.
Mr Junaid stated, “As the Indian economy evolves and progresses to a new phase of wealth generation, we are witnessing the emergence of new centres of value beyond conventional sectors such as manufacturing, IT, and banking.”
Sports, entertainment, and intellectual property-driven enterprises have become significant engines of wealth generation in India, he stated.
Mr Junaid asserts that this mirrors the transformation observed in the United States, where affluent rankings once dominated by industrialists and financiers now include sports team proprietors, media tycoons, and brands managed by celebrities—ranging from Michael Jordan and LeBron James to Oprah Winfrey and Beyoncé.
However, Forbes indicates that although several celebrities own substantial fortunes, “it is uncommon for their net worths to reach ten figures,” with fewer than twenty individuals worldwide achieving this milestone.
Although four other Bollywood celebs and affluent families were included on Hurun’s list this year, Khan’s fortune is assessed to be considerably greater.
Juhi Chawla, Khan’s co-star in several films, and her family own a net worth of $880 million, ranking them second.
The list features Hrithik Roshan in third place, with a net worth of $260 million, followed by filmmaker Karan Johar, with around $200 million, and actor Amitabh Bachchan and his family, with over $183 million.
In 2024, Johar garnered attention by selling a 50% share in his production firm, Dharma Productions, to billionaire Adar Poonawalla, India’s leading vaccine manufacturer, for $119 million.
This year, India’s total billionaire count has surpassed 350, with Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani maintaining the front two positions, as reported by Hurun India.
