Less than 24 hours after an earthquake impacted Madhabdi in Narsingdi, another tremor was detected in Palash upazila of the same district this morning.
A mild tremor registering 3.3 on the Richter scale was detected at approximately 10:36 AM, according to a Met Office warning.
The earthquake’s epicentre was located 29 kilometres northeast of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department office in Agargaon, Dhaka.
No casualties or damage have been recorded thus far.
Nizamuddin Ahmed, Professional Assistant and head of the Earthquake Observation and Research Centre, informed The Daily Star that the earthquake was perceived in the Baipail region, located on the periphery of Dhaka.
Subsequently, it was reported that the epicentre of the earthquake was in Palash Upazila. The Met Office stated that the prior erroneous information stemmed from an analytical mistake.
Yesterday, a formidable earthquake resulted in the deaths of at least 10 individuals, affecting multiple regions of the country, including Dhaka.
The BMD detected the tremor at 10:38 AM. It registered 5.7 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was located in Madhabdi, approximately 13 kilometres east of the Seismic Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka. The coordinates are 23.77°N, 90.51°E.
