The Ashes prospects for England are improved by Stokes and Wood

England Test captain Ben Stokes has recommenced training, and fast bowler Mark Wood is poised to return to competition next week, significantly enhancing England’s preparations for the Ashes series in Australia later this year.

Stokes was absent from the fifth and final Test against India at the Oval due to a shoulder injury sustained in the preceding match at Old Trafford in July.

Durham head coach Ryan Campbell stated that the 34-year-old had commenced hitting in the nets and expressed no reservations regarding the all-rounder’s availability for the Ashes series commencing in Perth on November 21.

“In the past week, he has commenced hitting balls and had an excellent session,” Campbell informed BBC Radio 5 Live.

“The batting performance is progressing favorably, whereas the bowling requires significantly more time for improvement.” He is receiving consistent treatment.

Campbell asserted that Stokes must participate in all five Tests in Australia for England to regain the Ashes urn.

“He is highly skilled as he enhances the depth of your batting line-up and serves as a formidable third or fourth seamer,” he stated. “He will deliver numerous overs and has the potential to secure wickets for you.”

Wood, who has been inactive since February, was nearing a comeback to competitive play after undergoing knee surgery, Campbell stated.

“I am hopeful that Wood will participate for us next week,” Campbell stated. “If that occurs, it is advantageous not only for Durham but also for England.” He is on the verge of playing.
