Hollywood icons Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finalized a divorce settlement after an extensive eight-year legal struggle, as confirmed by Jolie’s attorney.
The couple, married in 2014 and parents to six children, gained significant attention as one of the entertainment industry’s most prominent pairs. The media famously referred to them as ‘Brangelina’.
In 2016, Jolie initiated divorce proceedings, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. Subsequent court proceedings revealed that she had alleged Pitt was abusive towards her and two of their children aboard a private jet that year.
Following a police investigation into the incident, Pitt faced no charges and has firmly denied the allegations against him.
The legal representatives of the individual have refrained from making any public statements regarding the divorce settlement.
In a statement to People magazine, Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, emphasized that his client has been dedicated to “finding peace and healing for their family” since the onset of the divorce proceedings.
He stated, “This is merely one aspect of a lengthy process that began eight years ago.” Angelina expresses her exhaustion, yet she feels relieved that this phase has ended.
When reports of their separation surfaced in 2016, the couple issued a joint statement indicating that the process would remain private. Since then, both individuals have refrained from discussing their relationship in detail.
Recent developments in concurrent court cases have revealed a contentious divorce, with Jolie alleging that her former spouse is “waging a vindictive war,” while Pitt counters by claiming she is intentionally trying to sabotage his business ventures.
Despite statements from Jolie’s legal team indicating that a divorce settlement has been achieved, the resolution of a protracted legal dispute concerning a French vineyard remains uncertain.
The couple has become embroiled in a contentious conflict regarding Chateau Miraval, an expansive estate they purchased jointly in 2008 for an estimated 25 million euros (£21.3m). It also served as the venue for their wedding.
In 2022, Pitt levelled accusations against Jolie, claiming she sold her share of the property to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler without his consent, allegedly intending to undermine his wine investment. At the time, Jolie refrained from making public statements regarding the lawsuit.
The couple was involved in a contentious child custody dispute. A joint arrangement was agreed upon in 2021.
The couple first crossed paths on the set of the 2005 film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a meeting that would soon attract significant international media scrutiny.
This marks Pitt’s second marriage, following his previous marriage to Jennifer Aniston, known for her role in Friends. This marks Jolie’s third marriage, following her unions with actors Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.
Jolie’s filmography includes notable performances in titles such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Changeling, and Girl, Interrupted. The latest film to hit the screens is a biopic, Maria, chronicling the life of renowned opera singer Maria Callas.
Brad Pitt’s extensive filmography features titles such as Fight Club, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Twelve Monkeys. This year, he was seen in Silverstone filming his Formula One movie, F1, where he takes on the role of veteran driver Sonny Hayes.
